The Happiness Project : In the House Fundraiser

Artist Bloc, with the support of the Toronto Arts Council is hosting a fundraising event Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 at The Gladstone Hotel.  It is our goal to raise money through ticket sales, and an exclusive array of silent auction and raffle items. Check out Sponsor and Friends page for more details.

The Happiness Project
is a JUNO-award winning album composed and produced by Charles Spearin of the Toronto-based bands Broken Social Scene and Do Make Say Think on the Arts and Crafts label. Interested in learning about people’s definition of ‘happiness’, Charles interviewed his Annex neighbours and then took their spoken words and wrote music to accompany their responses. The resulting compositions are moving, insightful, and inspirational.

The Happiness Project: In the House
is a collaborative and interactive installation-based exhibition curated by Artist Bloc and built around artists’ interpretations of Spearin’s compositions and their own definition of ‘happiness’. The exhibition will open on October 1st, 2011 as part of Scotiabank‘s Nuit Blanche and will run until October 15th, 2011. Mark the event on FB. Or follow us on Twitter.

We have partnered up with Sketch, an organization that works with homeless youth and provides them with ways to express themselves through art.  We are offering them workshops with the artists participating in the exhibition, as well as an opportunity to take part in the official exhibition through their own interpretation of one of the songs from the album!

This fundraiser will help to bring The Happiness Project : In the House to Torontonians on October 1st of 2011, when the exhibition will open as part of Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche. The Gladstone Hotel is located at 1214 Queen Street West at the corner of Gladstone Avenue and Queen Street just east of Dufferin Street. With live performance by Charles Spearin (Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, The Happiness Project), along with VERY SPECIAL MUSICAL GUESTS including Sexy Merlin, Circle Research, DJ Kyle Marshall and Phil V.  There will be lots of ways to donate to our project at the event as well, original art work by Nick Di Genova, Nicole Aline Legault, and others up for auction as well as gift certificates and gifts!
